So we are officially in a bit of a silly season, and in general I stay away from the completely crazy rumors that persist on the internet, or in the case of the Leafs having interest in Nabokov or Turco I will occasionally debunk them...however, I have been getting inundated with emails, PMs, and questions on twitter regarding a few rumors that are out there...so here goes.. I will address the rumors and follow with what I have or haven't heard...If you all like this format, maybe Wacky Wednesdays could be a regular feature. I wouldn't do it more than once a week, because I am too busy talking to actual sources and attempting to provide you all with as much unique information as possible.

Wacky Rumor #1: Luongo for Lecavalier.

The only thing this seems to have going for it is the idea of trading two essentially untradeable contracts.

On Luongo...I don't think it is impossible that Roberto could in fact be traded, and I would even go so far as putting about a 15-20% chance of Luongo being dealt this year. Lately the Cory Schneider rumors have surfaced again, and one rumor I have been careful NOT to debunk is the Leafs and Cory Schneider...there are legs to that one. Columbus also has a strong desire for Schneider...

On Lecavalier...Much was made two drafts ago (when the NHL did in fact nix a trade that would have sent Lecavalier to Montreal) when Leavalier's NO-trade kicked in that he would never accept a deal after that. Not the case. I do have questions as to whether or not he would accept a trade to Montreal, but people who I trust tell me there may be a handful of teams Lacavalier would indeed go to...and two of those teams could be Vancouver and Buffalo. Both Vancouver and Buffalo do have goalies they can spare (a huge and growing need for the Bolts)

Wacky Rumor #2: Iginla to ....anywhere.

As of now, there is nothing to this. But I stress "as of now." Like Vinny, Iginla would likely accept a trade to a situation he found to his liking. And there are no shortage of teams interested...

I have heard for years now that Crosby has quietly let it be known how much he would love to have him in Pittsburgh. The Flyers have, on at least two occasions, looked into Iginla's possible availability. The Predators actually have as well. There are some who say Iginla's name came up briefly when Toronto made the trade for Phaneuf. The Sabres would love to grab him and don't think for a second that Regehr didn't mention how convincing Pegula could be to Iggy.

Wacky Rumor #3: Gomez to Toronto for...anything

I would be afraid to ask the powers that be in Toronto about this one, and by afraid I mean "AFRAID." There is no way Toronto takes Gomez off of the Habs hands. I am not saying Gomez won't be dealt however and I don't agree with those that call him "un-tradeable."

Wacky Rumor #4: Rick Nash wants out

He doesn't. He isn't growing tired of losing, or anything like that. He is a competitor who is taking on this season as a huge challenge to overcome.

What isn't wacky at all is how much Brian Burke likes Rick Nash. I firmly believe that had Nash hit the UFA market Burke would have backed up the truck. Unfortunately, as a trading partner, the Leafs currently aren't a great match for the Jackets...however Burke is better at the three-way deal than almost anyone. To be clear, I am not starting a rumor here...because I have not been told by a single source about anything regarding Nash and a trade as of yet.

Another team that loves Nash is LA...however the Kings may be working on something else... (look for that in my ACTUAL rumor blog later on...)

What's the Buzz?
1. Do you like me addressing these wacky rumors once a week like this?
2. Of Nash, Iginla, Luongo, Lecavalier, and Gomez, who do you think could actually get traded (my answer is Luongo)
