One of the things I always dread, just a bit, is the first game back from a road trip. Don’t get me wrong, I am glad to be at a hockey game again, glad to welcome the boys back, but that first game is almost always a poor performance. The Preds came out flat in the first period last night and really didn’t get going until late in the second and faded in overtime. Given that description, you have to be glad the team got a point out of the festivities.

Besides the point, there are some positives to be gleaned out of last night. Pekka Rinne continues his outstanding play, certainly proving his new contract to be worth every penny so far. Shea Weber getting on the board again is the other biggie, Weber has been playing well on the defensive side of the puck, his +/- has been outstanding, especially over the past few weeks, but his offensive game hasn’t been there. Last night was classic Weber, bombing a shot from the top of the circle that Habs goalie Peter Budaj is still looking for.

The Predators look ahead to an extended home stand, with games Tuesday against Washington, Thursday against Toronto, Saturday against Columbus and next Tuesday against Edmonton, a good way for this team to make some hay and gain traction in the West before heading out to another 5 game roadie beginning on Thanksgiving eve, including another west coast trip… their third of this young season.

The team is off today and resumes practice Monday morning.

Random Notes

- Great crowd at the Bridge last night, another sellout and a rowdy one at that. Pred Nation certainly brought it…

- It was kinda cool to see some of the old opening videos last night… the only thing missing was the old laser show…

- Truly was good to see Predator vets Mike Dunham and Tom Fitzgerald in the house last night. It is obvious that ownership is really working to reach out to the alumni.

- A special shoutout to David Poile. He is the first GM to hit the 1000 game plateau with two different franchises.
