The Alien Has Left The Building

Much to the dismay of the fans, Jacob Markstrom, aka Alien for his freakish abilities, was sent down to San Antonio for consistent playing time as Scott Clemmensen has returned from knee surgery.

In his time in the spotlight, Alien went 2-2-1 with a .944 save percentage and respectable 2.05 GAA. Many say it is still too early to name him THE starter, but if his few starts this season have shown anything, the opposition will be in trouble in the near future.

Defenseman Keaton Ellerby is/was Alien's roommate, and also named the freak of nature. To be that quick at that size is truly unique, especially for an NHL goaltender. GM Dale Tallon is so excited to have him in the organ-I-zation and one would have to think Markstrom will be back with the big club again before the season is over.

The original plan is now in place with Jose Theodore starting and Clemmensen backing him up. No doubt Clemmy will get some playing time soon to start showcasing him for a trade (Blue Jackets anyone?).

Tallon showed early on that he is prepared to be successful this season with the trading of David Booth. He is determined to not let this season get out of control. Underachievers will be jettisoned, which is why the leash on both Theodore and Clemmensen has to be extremely short.

Many of the passionate, "win now" Panther fans were upset that Alien was sent down. It is hard to blame them. For a player who was deemed to not be ready after not even having a full season to get accustomed to the American game, he showed he might just be the best goaltender on the team. If that is the case, the cream shall rise to the top in due time.

Due time will be dictated by Tallon, who by his own admission does not want to expose Alien to any setbacks or blows to his confidence that can easily rattle a young goaltender. However, that seems unlikely as Alien's raw talents alone should ensure his slumps are other goaltender's best days.
