Random Notes

- I am very excited to announce a special guest on this week’s SlapShot Radio, honorary Smashvillian and 2010 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Alice Cooper…

- Gotta give the Edmonton Journal credit… they call out the hypocrisy in the reporting over Pekka Rinne’s contract. Here’s the link.

- Splitting Ryan Suter and Shea Weber has tongues wagging all over Pred Nation. A good experiment in San Jose, but I don’t expect it to happen long term.

- I have to admit, I thought that the first coach to be fired would be Scott Arneil in Columbus, considering the mess that team has become so far this season… but St. Louis firing Davis Payne surprised me, and I am not sure why. St. Louis has done something that helps them and hurts a divisional opponent. Hiring Ken Hitchcock will make the Blues more competitive, and keeps him from going behind the bench in Columbus.

- The Nashville Predators make their first appearance of the season in nhl.com’s Super 16, hitting the charts at number 14.

- I’ll be interested in watching tonight’s Islanders/Bruins game…

- Immovable object… meet irresistible force. Kyle Turris and the Phoenix Coyotes are having a very interesting stare down regarding the young RFA’s contract. He wants almost $4 million a season and the Coyotes say no. The December 1st deadline is looming as they have to get a deal done or Turris stays on the sidelines for the rest of the season. Phoenix refuses to deal the unhappy 22 year old.

- Very interesting comments from former NHL player, Georges Laraque… he says the NHL has a steroid problem in his new book. Time will tell if Laraque gets the Jose Canseco treatment.
