Big Win in the Tank

Resiliency. It has been a watchword for Barry Trotz coached teams and it was on full display early this morning in San Jose. Giving up a 1-0 lead, the Predators allowed three consecutive goals and entered the third period down 2-1 in the Shark Tank, then immediately gave up another to Logan Couture, putting the Sharks up by two, not exactly a recipe for success for any visiting team.

The first glimmers showed itself two minutes later as Patric Hornqvist extended his goal scoring streak to five games with a typical lunch bucket goal. Three minutes later, Ryan Suter tied it up on a wicked little snap shot through traffic. Then the tension started ratcheting up… As minute after minute passed, the Sharks began pressing the play with more desperation. That is when Pekka Rinne took over. Rinne stopped six of seven shots in the third, but none bigger than the pad save on Joe Pavelski’s scoring chance with 28 seconds remaining.

David Legwand continued his strong play this season on both sides of the puck, bracketing the game with the lid lifter and the game winner. All-in-all a solid performance from the Preds last night. Next up is Tuesday night in Los Angeles.

Random Notes

- Another solid night on penalty killing for the Preds last night. Only the one PPG from San Jose on four chances.

- The Detroit Red Wings snapped their six game losing streak last night and continued Anaheim’s miserable road trip

- The Damaclean sword is certainly hovering over the entire front office of the Columbus Blue Jackets. The only questions left are when and who. The Jackets dropped a 9-2 decision to Philadelphia last night and simply aren’t competing.

- Tyler Seguin had his first career hat trick last night as the Boston Bruins finally asserted themselves in a 7-0 shellacking of the Maple Leafs. His trick including a simply sick swat out of mid air…

- Steve Sullivan got his first goal as a Penguin last night in their shootout win.

- The Edmonton Oilers had their win streak snapped by the Phoenix Coyotes last night.
