The Toronto Maple Leafs announced on Monday that they have recalled forward Joey Crabb from the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League.

Crabb, 28, has played nine games for the Toronto Marlies this season, recording 15 points on seven goals and eight assists, along with seven penalty minutes and a plus-six (+6) rating.

The Anchorage, Alaska native is tied for third in AHL scoring and trails only Marlies teammate Joe Colborne and Hershey’s Keith Aucoin by one point. The 6-1, 191-pound forward was named the AHL Player of the Week for the period ending October 23 when he registered two goals and three assists in two games.

To make room for Crabb, the Leafs also announced that they have assigned 23-year old rookie Matt Frattin to the Marlies.

In eleven games played with the Leafs this season, Frattin has no goals and just one assist and a plus/minus rating of minus one.

Following the team's practice in Toronto before heading to New Jersey, Leafs head coach Ron Wilson explained that Frattin's limited ice-time with the team might not be the best for his long-term development.

"He’s been getting scoring chances but in fairness to Matt he’s only getting 10-11 minutes a game," Wilson said. "You don’t want a young player who’s use to scoring at the levels he’s been at to come here and not score. We’ll have to make a decision at some point to send him down or what not."

"I’m certainly not going to compromise what we're doing just to try and find him a way to score a goal when other guys have earned that right over the years and are contributing a lot."

The Leafs are back in action on Wednesday when they take on the New Jersey Devils in the second game of a three-game road trip.
