Canadiens Grab Flyers Penalty Killer

News has broken that the Montreal Canadiens have pulled off an almost too-logical move in snagging Blair Betts off the waiver wire.

Courtesy of the Philadelphia Flyers, the Habs will now have depth for each of their 4 forward lines and, in one fell swoop, provides Montreal with the penalty killing depth they lost when Jeff Halpern left for Washington.

Betts is definitely a warrior, as most Canadiens fans are aware of, and will bring some punch and grit to the bottom end of the lineup and the PK.

As a result of this pickup, it now seems that Travis Moen, Ryan White, Mathieu Darche and Blair Betts will form the foundation of the Canadiens fourth trio.

Though White is destined to start the season on the IR, the move bodes well for the Habs moving forward.

Having depth for each line and each position is by far a necessity, yet this move does lend the suggestion that perhaps not all four will last the entire season in a Habs jersey.

Of course there is the off-chance that this move makes Travis Moen's services disposable, yet the bottom line is that this move only pads the Canadiens lineup and further cushions fans concern over team toughness.

Realistically, like with the Campoli move, in the end this addition only brings more value to the current lineup and more assets for Gauthier to play with over the course of the season.

Either way, the Canadiens have once again benefited from having an abundance of cap space available at a time when other teams are being forced to dish off somewhat valuable pieces. Betts is a valuable addition, especially in Montreal, as he immediately steps into a role that needed reinforcement, precisely what he is best at.
