Captain "C"

The Sabres are in Germany and Lindy Ruff has made it clear that it is a business trip. The only downfall to the trip in my mind, is that I have to wait until the following Friday for another game. It'll be interesting to see how the players handle the trip, especially the time change.

"Yes it's definitely a business trip, we want get off to a good start to the season and our main focus is on winning those two games. It's going to fly by quick, the first couple of days getting adjusted to the time difference and by the time you get that figured out, you're already playing in the regular season game."

The organizations stated that the Sabres will name the captain and assistants while in Europe.

I hope, with that decision, the Thomas Vanek earns the "C". There is no better time than to give it to Vanek and if he doesn't get it now, he may never get it. He is the highest paid player on the team, and may be the biggest threat on offense.

Give the "C" to Vanek and let him wear it for years to come. It was a disgrace to see our captain being benched and sitting in the press box - that being Craig Rivet. Remember when the Sabres had a rotating captaincy? Let's not see that anymore either. Make it simple and put the "C" on Vanek.

As for the assistant captains, there are plenty of viable options. Derek Roy, Tyler Myers, and Christian Ehrhoff are the three that pop into my head first.

It's not like the Sabres have veterans on the team like they used to. At 34, Jochen Hecht is the oldest on the team, but not worthy of even an "A" in my opinion.

Vanek gets my vote. Now, we'll see if he gets it later this week.
