The Nashville Predators ran their preseason record to 2-1 with a 2-0 shutout over the Washington Capitals in Baltimore last night. The story of the game seems to be the ice conditions which were described anywhere from “poor” to “dangerous.” The game was held at the almost 50 year old 1st Mariner Arena and the building was warm from the start which complicated matters even more. It’s a problem that is seen a lot in preseason games held at non-NHL arenas.

Scorers last night were Chris Mueller and Colin Wilson, each scoring their second of the preseason campaign. Pekka Rinne and Jeremy Smith split duty in goal and their efforts earned them the first shutout of the preseason. The team is back on the ice today the Blue, White and Silver squads are no more, Group 1 is on the ice from 11am – 12:30pm and Group 2 is on the ice from 1pm – 2:30pm. Next game is Friday at Carolina.

Random Notes

- Best line from last night’s radio broadcast had to go to Tom Callahan who commented that a hard pass in the second period had a “rooster-tail coming off it.”

- Good highlights from last night’s game on TSN’s website… umm memo to TSN, Preds are 2-1-0 in the preseason.

- Winnipeg and Columbus had a split squad home and home last night, each team winning on home ice… but Winnipeg wins overall 7-6.

- Speaking of Columbus, word breaking this morning that RJ Umberger has extended for five years.

- The Board of Governors met and discussed realignment yesterday. The only decision made was that a decision needed to be made by December.

- TSN is reporting that the NHL has conditionally approved the green “verification line” and a thinner mesh on the top of NHL goals. The verification line should be in effect by the start of the regular season, the thinner mesh may take a little longer to roll out across the league.

- Please, if you haven’t had the chance… drop a small donation to the Andie and Alex Belak Scholarship Fund. Checks should be made payable to Woodmont Christian Church/Belak and sent to 3601 Hillsboro Pike, Nashville, TN 37215.
