Yes, I picked the wrong weekend to go to the shore!

My phone has been ringing off the hook about these trade rumors. (usually this is the slowest week of the season!)

The latest on Montreal/Winnipeg is the Habs are looking at Oduya and the Jets are closing in on inking Bogosian to a long term deal...

An aside on Kevin Cheveldayoff...

While I know he is a young GM, Kevin Cheveldayoff is already getting a reputation as a "crafty dealmaker." As many of you remember, I have been a Chevy fan for many years now, back to when he was a finalist for the job in Phoenix that eventually went to Maloney.

I wrote a blog WAY back in my blogspot days (pre Hockeybuzz) about the wiz kids who would one day be GMs and run the NHL. There were three men I focused on, Ray Shero, Peter Chiarelli and Kevin Cheveldayoff. Two of them won Stanley Cups since that story.

The only reason it took longer for Kevin Cheveldayoff to get to the show was that his success in Chicago with the Wolves was viewed as skewed because the AHL team ran on such a high budget the perception was he had an easy job icing a winner with all that money to spend.

That was the perception by those who never met the guy or knew of the level of thought he has for the game. Jets fans are in for a treat.

Back to the rumors...

Matt Barry added to my Kings rumor last night after finding out that Scuderi was the player most likely to be moved by the Kings. I have confirmed that Matt appears to be spot on about this. I will add this though: There is another player in the mix as well, and this trade could really help the Kings in more ways than I initially thought.

So why does this trade have to happen before Doughty's deal is made? Some "pundits" out there have been corrected in "claiming" it isn't about the money needed as the Kings have nearly 10 million in cap space. This trade is about "leverage" I am told, but my source was not at liberty to go into further detail regarding how this deal would change leverage with Doughty or otherwise.

SO how do the Jets/Habs fit into all this?

I don't know exactly how the Jets/Habs deal is connected to the Kings deal...I only know, with relative certainty it does. (by relative I mean 4 of 6 sources have said there is a connection) It isn't uncommon, especially this time of year when the lines between a GM's office and a fishing boat near a cottage in Ontario are blurred, to get only pieces of a deal.

I am closing in on more regarding this.

I will be back later with "Ek's Top 5 Most Likely Training Camp Invitees To Make It."

Hope you and yours are enjoying this Holiday weekend.
