Sources informed me yesterday Mike Haviland is going to be the next head coach of the Winnipeg Jets (Moose, what have you). Done deal.

This is a great choice by new GM Kevin Cheveldayoff. I was recommending Havvy for the vacant New Jersey job two years ago.

A brilliant hockey mind (and a good guy) who has won at every level he's coached, Havvy knows the Winnipeg talent (which includes ex-Hawks Dustin Byfuglien, Andrew Ladd and Akim Aliu).

I had the opportunity to interview Havvy at length when he was coaching the Ice Hogs and I was covering the Hawks for hockeysfuture.com.

Now the Hawks will need to find an able assistant to replace Haviland. Between Joel Quenneville and Scotty Bowman, it is unlikely they will fial to come up with some strong candidates.

More later today or tomorrow when I post the first two rounds of Wiz' Mock Draft. And yes folks, for those of you who can't get quite enough of the effervescent, Prius-driving, Florida-based prospects guru, I will have the next five rounds of his mock as the week progresses.

JJ's got the hookup!!

Thanks for reading.
