According to yesterday's edition of Swiss newspaper Le Matin, the Philadelphia Flyers are about to tender a two-way contract offer to 21-year-old Swiss prospect Kevin Romy.

Romy, drafted by Philadelphia in the 4th round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, plays for defending champion HC Lugano in the Swiss Nationalliga.

Typical of most Swiss-trained players, Romy is solid defensively and an above-average skater but somewhat limited offensively against top competition.

The player, who can play all three forward position but was initially trained as center, played for Switzerland at the World Junior Championships (2003-2005) and World Championships (2005 and 2006). He was slated to play for the Swiss at the 2006 Winter Olympics but was knocked out by a leg muscle injury.

This season, Romy has 0 goals and 7 assists and 28 penalty minutes for Lugano. His best season to date in Nationalliga A was in 2004-2005, when he scored 10 goals and 22 points for HC Genève-Servette. At the 2002 World Under-18 Championships, Romy scored 9 goals and 14 points in 8 games. He had 5 points (3 goals) in 6 games at the 2005 World Juniors.

Le Matin quoted Romy as saying that his agent Roli Thompson has been in contact with the Flyers and expects to sign a two-way contract by the Flyers in the next couple of days and come to North America next year. Romy has an NHL out-clause in his Lugano contract for 2007-2008.

The Flyers have until June 1st, 2007 to sign him before losing his rights.

Said Romy, "If I don't sign this contract and play in North America, I will surely regret it one day."

Special thanks to NewSchool at the O&B for calling this item to my attention. I hadn't seen it previously.
