Capital Punishment!

The Devils drop their second game in a row, this time bad.
After a sloppy first period that saw the Devils up 2-1 things just broke down mid way through the second period. Not to mention Anton Volchenkov taking a shot to the face from Backstrom leaving the ice with a broken nose.

After the Cap took a commanding lead, including a penalty shot goal by - who else? Ovechkin, the bottom fell in a 4 goal second period for the Caps. This Caps team is simply explosive, and it showed.
Late in the third Kovalchuk and Mike Green exchanged stick pleasantries and then both of them faced off in a fight. A lot of dancing but no real punches thrown until the wrestled themselves onto the ice. Pretty much the highlight for the Devils and even that came to no avail.

I was impressed by the Capitals fans and community. So many jerseys and so many families at the game. The arena is a very nice one also.

Here are some notes of mine on the Devils:

- Kovalchuk started showing a little "let me do it all myself" attitude.
- I thought Zajac and Parise played very well, Zajac in particular.
- Arnott/Elias/Langenbrunner played an average game but lost steam towards the end.
-Taormina looked a tad more comfortable. Andy Greene was invisible.
-I like what Tallinder brings - a big body, a big shot and steady play.
- Volchenkov was hitting until he got injured but no difference after he left. The Devils didn't miss him.
- Brodeur was not good at all. Hedberg had some great saves but let a blunder after he went to pass the puck on the PP just to have Brooks Laich intercept and have an open net. Just more salt in the Devils' wound.

The big question is; what does the Volchenkov injury mean to the Devils and their cap situation?

This game we all want to forget.

Truly yours,
The Devils Advocate
