Random Notes - We’re past Labor day and players are filtering back to town… 15 at the last informal practice and rising…

- The 2010 Training Camp schedule is posted on predators.nhl.com. Some dates to circle…
9/13 – Rookie camp opens.
9/17 – Veterans report.
9/19 – First scrimmage at Sportsplex. Noon start time.
9/23 – First preseason game vs. Carolina – beginning of Preds Fest

- It’s nice to see the NHL and NHLPA come to a peaceful resolution on the Ilya Kovalchuk contract. Is this show of working together a good sign for the 2012 CBA negotiations? I certainly hope so.

- The Peterson for Parkinsons golf event is this week. There will be a nice party and silent auction at the Factory in Franklin on Thursday and a golf tournament on Friday at Legends. Go to the PFP website at this link for all the details.

- Canadian news agency QMI is reporting that the 2012 All-Star Game is going to be held in Ottawa as part of the 20th Anniversary of the Sens rebirth. The completion of Music City Center in 2013 should put Nashville in line for an All-Star game as well…

- QMI is also reporting that Quebec City is working on financing a new arena to lure a potential replacement for the Nordiques. The city has been without NHL hockey since the Nordiques moved to Colorado in 1995.

- Icethetics.com is reporting that the Buffaslug is dead. The last vestige of the oft-maligned logo is gone as the Buffalo Sabres will unveil a new 3rd jersey on Sept. 18th.

- I have to start off by saying, I’m not a big fan, but Tony Gallagher in the Vancouver Province has gone completely mental. Just after a player signs a $100 million contract, he tries to make the case that “top-level superstars” in the NHL are UNDERPAID… He compares Alex Ovechkin’s $9 million a year as a “plow-horse of a contract.” In the immortal words of John McEnroe... you cannot be serious!

- Nice to see Bridgestone Arena landing three more SEC Men’s Basketball Championships, the tournament returns for 2015, 2016 and 2019. Lots of March Madness at the Bridge over the next few years as the SEC Women’s championship is here in 2011 & 2012, and the NCAA will be holding the Women’s Final Four here in 2014 along with 2nd and 3rd round action in the Men’s Tournament.

- 32 days till Opening Night.
