Plan B:
Winger, Center, Defenseman.
How many times can I say Williams for Gagne before it finally happens? Nam-yo-ho renge-kyo, Nam-yo-ho renge-kyo, Nam-yo-ho renge-kyo...
Maybe Kovalchuk signs a one year deal somewhere until the Kings come to their senses? Plus get their Doughty/Simmonds/Johnson situation sorted out? Gagne and his 5.25 cap hit will be gone next season anyway.
The Flyers and Kings swap players that tend to get hurt and both players come off the books next season. Flyers save a few bucks in much needed salary cap space.
Replacing Frolov. Or do they need to? He's not garnering the attention he expected or he would have been signed by now. If he wants to go through the rest of his career playing for teams that don't make the playoffs or are waxed in the 1st round, there are plenty of teams who will sign him. He loves it in L.A. and would be ill-advised to turn down an offer from Lombardi.
Stoll and Handzus are fantastic #3 centers but the Kings still lack a #2. Unless Brayden Schenn has a crappy camp (or gets hurt), he's going to get his shot. Does he turn into the missing #2 center the Kings have lacked for years? Most definitely. Will it happen this season? Probably not but stranger things have happened.
Thomas Hickey is off the block and the #5-#6 position is his to lose. There will still be inexpensive "fillers" should he also tank in camp. Maybe Voynov impresses as well.
Lombardi signs a cheap veteran.
With Schenn's 3.1 cap hit and if there is a Williams for Gagne swap, the Kings payroll is still about 54 million. Should Frolov sign there's little to no room for deadline deals.
Gary Cooper was great in "High Noon". Let's see what "High Noon" brings tomorrow...
