Allison

Rumors continue to swirl around the most valuable player available right now. The most commonly rumored team in the rumor mill is Calgary, even though sources tell me that no official discussions have occurred to date. There is a simple reason for that. The Flames are keeping their options open with Gomez, something I confirmed by talking to sources at the Devils/ Flyers game last night. (by the way the Flyers new scoreboard is the best I have ever seen. 4 HUGE widescreen high def screens that seem to stretch from blueline to blueline.

Back to Allison. The Caps (e3), Islanders (e2), and Avalanche (e1) are also rumored to be involved. There are rumors swirling that John Madden could miss some time and could be put on long term injury, which would give some cap relief. My sources say that is highly unlikely, as Madden is not that far off from playing. He has some really good days and some bad days.

Allison is a very valuable guy. I was amazed at the attitude that the Toronto fans have for the teams second leading scorer last year. Here is a player that made the Leafs power play deadly, and did so after missing essentially two entire seasons. One can only assume that Allison will be faster this year and having been pretty healthy last year is not a risk. If this was the trade deadline, I guarantee that Allison would be in demand. The funny thing is the longer he waits for the right opportunity the more valuable he’ll become. All it will take as an injury or a floundering power play to get Allison to a team.

How do you spell class? How about Brendan Morrow? After signing a big time 6 year deal yesterday, he said the number 1 reason he wanted to stay in Dallas was due to the fact that with Turco in goal the team will always be a contender. That is a true leader. Turco has been much maligned for his playoff performance following his big contract, and yet Turk is still one of the best in the NHL.

Bondra. Although Detroit and Toronto are rumored destinations, don’t rule out the NY Rangers. If Leetch and the Rangers can’t work this out, Bondra is being targeted as the ideal point man on a very dangerous power play.
