Later today the Hockey Hall of Fame selection committee will meet in Toronto to decide who will be Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. This year is a special year for this due to the fact that this is the first time women can be Inducted. From what I understand the rules are up to 4 players, 2 women, and at least one builder and ref can be Inducted, but it does not always have to add up to that.

Earlier in the month I asked readers to send me their votes on who they think should be inducted into the hall of fame. I have tallied up all the votes and have the results. To simulate the fact that it does not have to add up to 4 players, 2 women and builder/ref, any ties mean that there was no consensus to if that player should get and and therefore, was not voted in.

As a result your picks for the Hockey Hall of Fame are....

Joe Nieuwendyk
Doug Gilmour
Cassie Campbell
and Pat Burns

Now, almost everyone picked Nieuwendyk and a very large portion of people selected Gilmour so those were the easy decisions to people. After that in the players category there was a 3 way tie between Alexander Mogilny, Phil Housely, and Pavel Bure, in which case it was decided that they do not get in this year. The other people who did end up getting votes were Mark Howe, Dino Ciccarelli, Adam Oates, Eric Lindros, and Dave Andrechuk.

As far as the women vote went, there were only 3 players that ended up getting a vote which was Cassie Campbell, Cammi Granato, and Angela James. However, Granato and James tied while Campbell was far and away ahead of them in the tallies, which is why only she got in.

For builders, I assume most people were on the same wavelength as I was when selecting when picking Pat Burns into the Hall. He is a very sick man, who we all know will get into the Hall eventually regardless of how long. So why wait? Lets let him have a speech and feel honoured. Others who were nominated were Don Cherry, Jim Devellano, and one crazy person said Rocky Wirtz just because they brought the Black Hawks back out of the depths of nothing.

So now lets see who the real experts select today and compare with what we have here. I will have a blog up either tonight or tomorrow for discussion about this.

Congratulations to Sean Hammond who knew that on the 1945 Maple Leafs on the Stanley Cup, beside Frank Selke, who was the assistant manager at the time, was the name "ASSMAN". He got his Hockey Hall of Fame tickets in the mail.

As for this week's question, the first person to email me telling me who the first Soviet was to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame get 2 passes TO the Hockey Hall of Fame, good till the end of the year.
