Spezza and Game Five Thoughts...

Something for Pred fans to chew on, in a purely hypothetical sense, does it make sense for Nashville to make a play for Jason Spezza? OK, before you spit out your coffee, think about it… a package that combines the offloading of a big salary or two could bring the kind of playmaking center this team needs (along with a point a game in both regular season and playoffs) and an almost zero sum if the package is right.

I’m just sayin’…

Game Five Thoughts… Both teams hold serve at home and it’s now a best of three, and there are some questions in my mind right now as I await game five tonight.

- Is Chicago’s youth helping or hurting right now? No question that the young ‘Hawks are loaded with talent, but discipline seems to be in short supply. Being back inside the friendly confines of the UC will certainly help this team, but the

- Is it time for Flyer fans to start believing? That was the headline for Phil Sheridan’s column in yesterday’s Philadelphia Inquirer. Well… this one won’t. The negative mojo I have been projecting throughout the playoffs when it comes to the Flyers has been very successful, I ain’t changing it now.

- Does Coach Q need to shake up his lines… again? Pred fans recognize a mad scientist and Joel Quinneville is doing a pretty good Barry Trotz impersonation in his mixing and matching, trying to get his stars on track. The top line for Chicago continues to struggle and needs to get on track, maybe splitting Kane and Toews is the right thing to do.

- Hey Flyer fans… looking for a reason to believe? In the bizzarro stat of the day, the Flyers have played nine games in these playoffs that were either a game 4, 5, or 6. The Flyers are 9-0 in these games outscoring the opponent 34-14 with three road shutouts.

- Wither Philly? The Chicago media is doing a pretty good Philly media impersonation in the level of their panic at a tied series. It’s also pretty humorous to see the typical, uncreative, columns from the mainstream media attacking Flyer fans and Philadelphia as a city (yes Dan McNeil, I’m referring to your column in the Trib.) Funny thing is, a cursory search of Philly.com doesn’t have the same type of column referring to Chicago. Hmmmm... You stay classy Mr. McNeil.

Don’t forget about the NHL Nashville Flood Relief Tweetup. That event will take place tomorrow night at The Tin Roof, on Music Row. This event will benefit the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee and is being driven by Pred blogger Mark Willoughby (check his View from 111 blog.) It will be a good time for a great cause.
