Wrapping up a great weekend of hockey…

Back-to-Back - Congratulations to the Windsor Spitfires, completely dominating the host Brandon Wheat Kings 9-1 in the final last night becoming only the eighth team to accomplish back-to-back Memorial Cups and the first one since Kamloops did it in ‘94-‘95. The other OHL teams must be celebrating as well, as the Spitfires will be losing a large chunk of their talent as they sport 10 NHL draft picks (including Predators first rounder Ryan Ellis) and two players that will be selected in the first round of the upcoming NHL draft.

Windy Wrap-up - The Chicago Blackhawks calmly dispatched the San Jose Sharks, sweeping the number one seed in the West out of the playoffs. Chicago now waits for the winner of the Flyers/Habs series. NBC is probably wearling Philly colors right now, CBC is wearing the Hab colors...

Chum again… - The questions are starting in San Jose again as the Sharks begin to look back on the wreckage of their ugly sweep from the Conference Finals. The only star to show up for the Sharks was Patrick Marleau and this franchise’s lack of a killer instinct has to be addressed.

Cheating in Montreal? - Given that the Flyers won game 4, no one in Philly is making a big deal of it (except the Philly media,) but there may have been a substance on the mat that covers the floor of the entrance way to the Flyers bench that caused some “skate issues” during game 4 of their series. Ahhhhh, the gamesmanship of playoff hockey!

Worlds Done, Still… No One Cares - The IIHF cash grab that is the Worlds wrapped up yesterday... did you catch that exciting final? Nah, neither did I, but Russia lost again… Congrats to former Pred goaltender Tomas Vokoun on leading the Czechs to the title.

Big Buff - Can anymore argue that the MVP for the Blackhawks is anyone other than Dustin Byfuglien so far?

--------------------------------------

Game five tonight in Philly as the Flyers try to close this one out and reach the Stanley Cup finals for the first time in 13 years. The Flyers will take nothing for granted as the Canadiens have come back from being down 3-1 to the Capitals and being down 3-2 to the defending champs… the Habs know what they need to do.

The key for tonight is the first goal. The team that has scored first has won every game, and not only won, but won going away. When the Flyers have scored first, they have outscored the Habs 12-0 behind simply outstanding goaltending from journeyman Michael Leighton, Leighton is the first Flyer goaltender to record three shutouts in a series, one more shoutout in the playoffs will tie the franchise record with the legendary Bernie Parent. While the Habs have ridden Jaroslav Halak into this series, his shoulders have not been as broad in the conference finals. Halak has let in some softies that have really deflated his team. He must be on his head tonight for this series to continue.

Wachovia Center will be nuts tonight, as crazed Flyer fans will be rooting their team on and daring to believe that this team could bring the first Cup to Philly in 36 years. Game time is 6pm.
