If there was ever a movie to compare to the Avs season, it would certainly be the most recent Star Trek.

Both franchises appeared dead and stale. However, with help of new management and newer faces, both were pleasing to watch again.

Now just, like the new Star Trek wasn't as fun to watch as the Wrath of Khan, the Avs weren't nearly as good as the Sakic-Forsberg heyday but they defied the analysts, experts and fans and made it into the playoffs.

This year, the Avs found a new group of kids to help the franchise. They pulled together, faced an overwhelming task, just like the Enterprise and the Narada, and came out of it better.

The past week has been very much like that final battle however. The Avs were going into battle with everyone counting them out and either their opponents were going down, or they were.

Once they lost to the Flames and went down 2-0 to the San Jose Sharks, it was like the Avs' season was being sucked into a black hole. The Avs were "givin' it all she's got" but still being pulled in. Then, Matt Duchene and Peter Mueller stepped up and pushed the Avs back from the brink while Craig Anderson kept things together.

Now, thanks to their work and the work of Paul Stastny's line- as well as the increased veteran presence of Adam Foote and Stephane Yelle, the Avs are back in the playoff just one year after finishing 15th in the West.

It's been a fun right, though not exactly pleasant the entire time and it'll be fun to watch them on their next step.

White-out the Can

This is a movement that I'm trying to start and I need everyone's help. The Avs have been criticized for their lack of attendance this year- rightfully so. Therefore, for game three, we need to sell the Pepsi Center out and everyone but EVERYONE must wear white to that game. With a name like the Avalanche, it would only make sense to make the arena appear as though it's covered in snow. The Penguins fans have done this, and the Capitals with red and it looks amazing.

Just imagine an arena filled to the brim with white, waving white pom-poms as the Avs take the ice. It would be a spectacle to show the league that hockey is still a popular sport in Colorado.

Also, if you are an Avs fan abroad, or can not attend the game, support the cause by wearing white that day as well. Come on Avs fans, lets do this thing!
