Just prior to Friday morning’s workout, Thrashers coach John Anderson held a closed-door meeting with the players and coaching staff at their Duluth, GA practice facility. Though we wouldn’t disclose the specifics of the conversation, it was quite clear the team’s lack of intensity over the past couple of games was the main topic.

When asked by the AJC’s Chris Vivlamore about the gathering, Anderson replied, “I’m not going to break their confidence in me…we did talk about [the poor performances], I will say that”.

After climbing back into the playoff picture last week with a 4-0-1 run, the Thrashers went into Tuesday night’s game with Boston just one point behind the Bruins for 8th place in the Eastern Conference…but fell flat, shut out 4-0. Two night’s later Toronto, the conference’s last place team, came to town and the Thrashers fell 2-1 in overtime… taking only 20 shots on goal.

“They had some good scoring chances”, Maple Leafs goalie Jonas Gustavsson said afterwards. “They just didn’t shoot”.

Was Friday’s meeting well received? “I hope so”, Said the coach. “We’ll find we’ll out [Saturday]”.

The Thrashers will go into tonight’s game with Carolina trailing Boston by 2 points, Philly by 4 and Montreal by 6. The Bruins have a game in hand over the Thrashers.

The Rangers are one point behind Atlanta.

In other news…the Thrashers have called up forward Tim Stapleton fro the AHL Chicago Wolves as Todd White, Slava Kozlov and Chris Thorburn are still questionable for the game against the Hurricanes tonight. Stapleton was acquired last summer as a part of the Kubina/Exelby trade with Toronto.

Last season he plated in four NHL games with the Leafs and score one goals and was a –3. While with the Wolves this season, Stapleton has 29 goals, 29 assists and has 18 PIM in 71 games played.
