The Dumont signing will trigger more…

As has been reported, there were quite a few teams looking at Dumont, and with this signing I fully expect more to drop in the next 24-48 hours. A reliable source told me that the other team battling for Dumont was Detroit, and I have heard that a third team was willing to give Dumont more than the Preds, and talking around, I believe that I have narrowed that down to two teams. LA and Washington.

I am also told that the Predators came into this very late, with the first talks being held 3 to 4 days ago..I will have more details after the PC on the scenarios that led Dumont to Nashville….

So what does this signing trigger.

First off, this should trigger and set the price for Carter, and as one source said to me minutes ago, “Nashville has thrown down the gauntlet now and beaten the Red Wings in a signing. All my contacts in that organization are saying that Dumont signing in the division is not going well, and I expect that Detroit answers this call and signs Dumont.”

However, another source has told me that “Detroit wasn’t willing to go this high for Dumont.” Would they be willing to do so for Carter?

That remains to be seen.

The Pens, Kings and Leafs are all still in the Carter game as well.

In Montreal, where rumors of a possible Dumont signing first broke last night, word is that the Habs are now going to look to make a move in the near future. I am talking to a source in the next few hours in Montreal.

I will be trying out something new in the Chatroom at 4:30pm ET today.

Anyone out there remember “All the President’s Men.” Where “Deep Throat” said he would answer any yes or no question posed to him? I thought that would be fun to try, so today at 4:30pm in the chatroom I will be holding a “Yes or No Chat.”
