Semi-Final Friday is here. Puck heads will be clearing out of their work places early to settle in with a cold one to watch Team USA take on Finland at 2pm central today… and wonder of wonders, the game is actually on NBC... in High Def!!!!

OK, enough snark… both of today’s games should be fun to watch. Much in common for Team USA and Team Canada, both need to avoid looking ahead too much and take care of business. I will be curious to see how Canada reacts… after dominating Russia how do you get up for Slovakia? I mean … really. On paper, this could be the biggest blowout in recent medal round history. If you are Team USA, how do avoid looking forward to the inevitable rematch with your neighbors to the north, only this time, with gold on the line. In 1980, the Americans had to beat Finland for gold, this time, they need to beat them for the chance at gold.
Another early start for Team USA, puck drop at 2pm central, Team Canada gets it’s normal prime time slot with an 8:30pm central start.

The US is close to winning the medal count this year… today’s medal winners will tell the tale, seven of the sixteen remaining medals on the line, three is Short Track. Going into today’s competition the US has 32 medals (8g-12s-12b), closest to the US is Germany with 26 (8g-11s-7b)

The trade rumors are swirling… in Nashville they are focused on Dan Hamhuis and Dan Ellis. Both will be UFA’s at the end of the season. Preds GM David Poile is on the record as saying he was to keep them both.
Dan Ellis wants to be a number one somewhere, I’d love to keep him in Pred colors, but I would be surprised if the Predators get him signed.
Dan Hamhuis has been the target of a lot of wrath from Pred Nation this season. In what has become a grand Pred Nation tradition going back to Drake Berehowski and Bill Holder, one defenseman gets singled out every year as the designated whipping boy. This year it seems to be Dan… Fair or unfair, it is what it is. I would not be surprised if Hamhuis gets signed though, he has been here for quite awhile and likes it in Nashville, which may get the Preds a bit of a hometown discount. It is important to remember that Hamhuis would be a top pair d-man on more than half of the teams in the NHL.

Our first HockeyBuzz Radio road trip is in high gear. We will be going to St. Louis to see the Preds and Blues on March 21st.
