Game Night - The Freezer Edition

It’s a frigid Game Night in the Music City with snow in the forecast. A perfect night for hockey! and of course the desperation trip to Kroger for bread and milk! :-)

The Calgary Flames are in town for the third game of a season series that is tied at 1, with both teams taking games on the opponent’s ice. The Predators have won three straight since dropping three straight around Christmas, keeping their last ten record at 7-3-0. The Flames are riding a four game win streak and appear to have gotten their stuff together at the right time. The season series will be wrapped up in Calgary ten days from now. The Preds have not beaten the Flames on home ice in almost a year.

Discipline remains the key for the Predators. Staying out of the box has driven good results for this team as they lead the league in penalty minutes per game and have only been shorthanded three times in the last two games, both victories.

Injuries should not be a huge factor going into tonight’s game, Calgary is only listing Craig Conroy as out for tonight’s game, Cory Sarich and Dion Phaneuf are both listed as probable for tonight. The Predators IR consists of Jordin Tootoo, Jarred Smithson and Martin Erat.

The goaltender battle looks to be Miikka Kiprusoff vs. Dan Ellis. I have to admit, I would’ve liked to see Pekka Rinne in there, simply for him to show the Finnish Olympic Team selectors that they may have made a mistake in passing him over. Kiprusoff had a rough start to the season but has rounded into form and is playing well.

Puck drop is at 7:08pm. Coverage on 104.5 the Zone. No home TV, but those with Center Ice should be able to watch Sportsnet’s coverage.

Tickets are available for tonight, it is a Dailey’s Super Tuesday with $2 concessions and good ticket deals including two lower bowls tickets for $92 or two upper bowl tickets for $42.

Tuesday Notes

- The story about the Edmonton Oilers and the Calgary restaurant on New Year’s Eve won’t go away, despite the negotiated settlement of the parties differences. Now, the Calgary Sun is reporting an investigation is underway to determine if the eatery overserved the Oilers with regards to alcohol. The story is here.

- DVR ALERT! Canada vs. United States in the finals of the World Juniors Championship. The New Year’s Eve game was a classic, the rematch is for gold. I really wish I could watch it live! Coverage on the NHL Network in the US.

- Speaking of the NHL Network, they deserve credit for covering the tournament for US viewers. It’s been great to get a full view of this tournament and track the prospects coming up. This has been a major miss for the league in the US and this will help fans et to know the up and comers.
