It is a great day to blog hockey!
There are other rumors this morning that Joe and Gavin Maloof, owners of the NBA’s Sacramento Kings, want badly to bring an NHL team to Las Vegas. My sources say the NHL is taking this VERY serious. Whether or not they are looking to bring an existing franchise or a new franchise is still uncertain. However I am told that even though the NHL has no plans to expand, the growing talent pool of good young US players may push the NHL to expand to as many as six cities in the next decade. The theory being that the kids from the US are just now coming up in great numbers due to the extreme growth in youth hockey in the US over the last twenty years…I am working on an entire story about this phenomenon…
What could stop Gomez from being traded? If another team grabs Gionta? There are some rumors this morning that a few teams may be doing some internal shifting around in an attempt to do just that. Ottawa, Phoenix, Chicago and the NY Rangers are four teams that sources tell me may be considering what moves would be necessary to make an offer for the speedy, little sniper.
According to a source who spoke with JFJ yesterday in Toronto, Anson Carter is still on the Leafs radar, and another source told me that for 1.5M Anson would likely fulfill hie lifelong dream of wearing the blue and white.
Word is also out that Manny Legace may be dropping his asking price to 1.5M if he can land in the right situation. That is a steal in my opinion..
