Stinker on Broadway

The question in the minds of Pred Nation on this cold Sunday morning, what the hell happened to the team we got used to seeing on home ice? The Preds put out another stinker at 501 Broadway last night, losing their third in their last four home games. Losing is not really the issue… it seems to be and effort and execution combination that is lethal to a team predicated on hard work.

To be fair, the Predators did come out better than they finished, getting a power play goal halfway through the first, neither team seemed to have much jump, but an inexplicable let down in the final two minutes of the first period led to a couple of quick goals by the Wild. In hindsight, the game was done at that point.

The Predators need to get their home mojo back and fast, because the fall could be as fast as the rise with four of their next five inside the friendly confines including quite a few games against teams that are struggling. After this home stretch, Nashville has six of seven on the road to finish the calendar year.

This is no time to let off the gas. Next opponent... Vancouver, Tuesday night.

Quick hits…

- Plenty of comments among Pred Nation last night about starting Dan Ellis back to back, it’s hard to quibble with that call as I really can't lay the loss on the feet of bad goaltending.

- A lot of ex-Preds on the ice last night in Wild attire and almost all of them hit the stat sheet with points or penalties including original Predator Andrew Brunette. The only one missing? Marek Zidlicky.

- In the tradition of Steven Colbert… a “Tip of the Hat” to Dirk Hoag, occasional HBR guest co-host and author of the “On the Forecheck” blog. Dirk is the one who broke the news of the Sommet Group’s tax issues, scooping every media outlet in the city… and a “Wag of the Finger” to the Tennessean for not crediting him (like the Nashville Post did) with breaking the story.

- We had a great fundraiser for CAPE at the Flying Saucer last Wednesday night. Thanks to all the fans that came out to have a good time and raise money for a great cause. We exceeded last year’s amount and are planning another watch party for February. Big thanks to Jim and Wendy Leugens for their tireless work on these parties and another big thank you to Jill and the staff at the Flying Saucer for the help in making the night a success.

- Sorry for my lack of posting lately... things got a tad crazy in other areas and required my attention. Should be back on track now. Thanks for your patience.
