The Predators are in Minnesota tonight to meet the team owned by their former owner. This completes the St. Paul portion of their schedule and the Preds are looking to sweep the Wild in the Xcel Energy Center.
Minnesota underwent a turnover in the offseason, new coach, new players, new style. Unfortunately for Wild fans, their results haven’t improved much. Minnesota comes into the game tonight on ther bottom of the Western Conference standings, unable to make up much ground, despite a turnaround in their last five games, going 3-1-1.
The Predators are looking to build on their 12-4-0 record in their last 16 games but in order to do that, special teams need to get back on track. Breakdowns in the penalty kill have impacted the Preds in their last two losses (to St. Louis and Calgary) and a lack of pop on the power play hasn’t helped as well.
David Legwand has continued his excellent play over the past few weeks and Martin erat is also showing signs of breaking out of an early season funk. Erat has skated well the past few games, taking a more direct route to the puck and easing up on the circling. This team will need the two of them firing if it is to continue their winning ways.
Goaltending has also been a hallmark of this team’s success in the past 16. Pekka Rinne has been lights out in net since coming on in relief during the Oct. 28th game in St. Paul. Since getting that win he has gone 10-3-0 with a 2.03 GAA and a .925 save percentage.
Game time is 7pm, coverage on FS Tennessee and 97.1 RQQ.
