Leafs 2 - Caps 1(SO) - Highlights
- 1 point out 4 from two teams that are likely to miss the playoff is bad news.
- The Caps left Semyon Varlamov out to dry tonight. 65 minutes of play, 38 saves on 39 shots...where did all the Capitals scoring go?
- Alex Ovechkin(6),
Brooks Laich(6) and
Chris Clark(5) combined for 17 shots on
Vesa Toskala with Ovechkin scoring the lone Capitals goal.
- The Leafs were tenacious, pressuring long enough to crack Varlamov and push the game to the shootout. Obviously once you reach the shootout it's anyones game, but the Leafs stayed on top of Washington all night and it was the Capitals fault for not putting up enough of a fight.
- Ovechkin's 16th of the year moves him into 2nd place in goal scoring, but it was not enough.
-
Mike Green's assist tongiht was his 20th of the year, tops among defensemen in the NHL.
- The Caps were caught out of position at many times tonight and seemed fatigued rather than invigorated while playing the Leafs.
- It was a frustrating struggle of a game with both the coaches and players walking away disappointed.
- The Caps have the day off tomorrow as the settle into Ottawa for their game on Monday. I will be in attendance when the Caps and Sens square off so expect a fairly detailed game report.
I will be back with more tomorrow, including any Caps items I may have missed over the last week or two.
