Last night's game had all the makings of trouble after the first period. Goalie fighting the puck, iffy PK work and general timing issues after a 6 day break all provided the Avalanche with a 2 goal lead after 20 minutes. Into the second the Canucks got a PP and new hero to Canucks fans everywhere,
Christian Ehrhoff, scored the first of 2 goals and almost the beginning of a hat trick.
Few teams other than the Flames know what it is like to give up 5 unanswered goals in period or game (the Canucks are one of those teams too) but now the Avs are one as well. In the past 3 meetings the Canucks have outscored them 16-4! It's good to play a top team well and the Canucks should feel some confidence coming from knocking off the division leaders twice in a week, by two different yet convincing manners.
Ehrhoff played like a man possessed and he is quickly becoming a fan favourite for many in Vancouver.
Henrik Sedin is also now in the top 10 for goals and 11 in scoring in the league. All this without his brother. There is some reason to believe that the twins can be split up and still have success- will AV do it once Daniel is back if conditions warrant it?
One thing fans can be certain of is the RSK line is working well and not one that should be shelved upon Daniel's return. The Canucks did a lot of things right in that game later on and most importantly was carrying the play against a tired team. They had the legs and used them- it's been something we haven't seen from them frequently enough- exposing a team's weakness!
New blog tomorrow after we see how the Hawks play tonight.
Enjoy the win and let's hope for more like this one.
