Calgary got waxed last night so expect them to rebound against the Kings tomorrow afternoon.
Rob Scuderi isn't going to play and there's no replacement for
Ryan Smyth. The Kings will have no depth and
Peter Harrold, a defenseman/utility player and his whopping one point will skate as a forward.
Terry Murray is moving Raitis Ivanas to the 3rd line with
Michal Handzus and
Wayne Simmonds. That's not a typo.
Raitis Ivanans is moving to the checking line.
What?
Is the organization that skeptical about what they have in Manchester? Are the players playing back east worse than Teddy Purcell who has 2 assists in his last 13 games? Is he really that defensively responsible?
Terry Murray is continuously preaching "shoot the puck" and the Monarchs
Brandon Segal has been credited with 54 shots in 18 games. That's about 2000% better than what you're going to get from
Alexander Frolov yet Murray would rather play Ivanans who has an electric FOUR shots on goal the entire season instead of calling up a 6'2 209 forward?
And why no
Richard Clune? Isn't this the guy that had actually made the team out of training camp before being hurt? Wouldn't the Kings rather see HIM making life miserable for opponents on the "checking line" rather than Ivanans who rarely checks and has a penchant for dumb penalties? At least Clune has 13 shots in 9 games for the Monarchs.
Jonathan Quick gave up three goals on 20 shots against Philadelphia. Granted, they weren't the easiest to stop, but based on Quicks .897 save percentage (.853 his last 3 games), the Kings are going to need Quick to steal a few games. And for those who are wondering,
Jonathan Bernier has a 1.59 gaa and a .953 goals against average.
For all the praise
Anze Kopitar has been receiving lately, leave it to me to find a fault. In the past 5 games, Kopitar hasn't been in the positive as far as faceoff wins. 37 wins vs 50 losses and get this... he's only been on the positive side of faceoff wins just FIVE TIMES the entire season. Without
Ryan Smyth to go grab those loose pucks, Anze has to pick up this part of his game or he'll be seeing a lot of goose eggs in the coming weeks.
I imagine Dean Lombardi is in Manchester to get a good look at who he believes will be a part of the Kings future and which players he can dangle as trade bait. The Kings could use some badly needed forward depth (and to get Harrold off the wing), but the last time the Kings made a trade in November is when they sent Sergei Anshakov and Martin Strbak to Pittsburgh for
Martin Straka six seasons ago.
It also looks like Dean's play to make an offer sheet to Kane or Toews has been foiled. Not too many "impact" players on the market next season. Sorry folks, Dean ain't going after Kovalchuk.
Oh, and
Alec Martinez was finally activated and sent to Manchester.
