While Luc Robitaille was being honored in Toronto, the Kings were entertaining hockey fans as the Versus game was the only NHL game scheduled.
Fans got to see Anze Kopitar, Ryan Smyth and see for themselves if Jonathan Quick is the real deal.
Following their snooze-a-thon against Nashville Saturday afternoon, the Kings came out with a much grittier effort as 11 shots were fired against former King Cristobal Huet in the 1st period alone.
But once again, Jonathan Quick allowed a goal he shouldn’t have. League scoring leader Anze Kopitar got the Kings back into the game with a goal at the nine minute mark, but what’s been the strong point for the Kings of late, failed them.
The Kings had killed off 27 of the last 31 with the man advantage, but two straight power plays from Troy Brouwer and Jonathan Toews less than 4 minutes apart for the 22nd ranked power play unit sealed the Kings fate for their 2nd loss in as many games.
Fans did see that Anze Kopitar is as good as advetised. They did see that Smyth has been resurrected and they did see that Jonathan Quick is not the real deal.

Would you rather keep the current 4th line (which has STILL scored only one POINT in 18 games) or add Richard Clune? Many fans have been asking what’s happening with the enigmatic one. He assured me this afternoon he’s been working hard in Manchester and is itching to get back to the NHL. Is he a better option than Teddy Purcell?

I’m going to jinx it again. The Carolina Hurricanes haven’t won in 12 straight games. With the Kings coming to town, I fully expect them to end that streak.

If the Kings are going to put in a re-entry waiver claim on Michael Nylander, they’re going to have a long wait. Before November 1st, they would have had the 5th shot at him, but now that the rankings have been re-seeded, the Kings will have to wait until 23 other teams pass. Unlikely.

Charissa Thompson, who was interviewing players between timeouts and periods is a new addition to the Versus family. Now I know what those playoff towels are for.
