Shawn Thornton: Hands Down the Best Interviewee in the Hub of Hockey

For a man enraged just 20 minutes prior, after a heated bout with Buffalo's Paul Gaustad, Shawn Thornton looked as cool as a cucumber after Saturday's 4-2 home victory for the Bruins. It was so typical of the always entertaining veteran winger. The ever-comical forward sat grinning with his left leg propped atop his right, anxious to inflict side splitting laughter as he fielded questions from the media.

"Boys, I had a point tonight too. Ha? Like, what the f--k, nothing eh? Just fight, fight, fight." Thornton sarcastically said, pretending to be tired of discussing the topic of fisticuffs. "Eh, I'm just kiddin'."

Thornton racked up 12 minutes in penalties on the night, stemming from the fight with Gaustad and a first period throw-down with former teammate Steve Montador. Thornton pummeled the former B's blueliner, earning a decided victory in the bout.

"They were down 1-0, Monty asked me. He's an ex-teammate, he's a good guy, so I obliged." the 32-year-old said as to why he dropped the gloves. "Sometimes I'll turn that one down, but the guys did a good job on our side by feeding off of it and not letting them get the momentum."

A discussion then began if Thornton was upset he wasn't named first star of the game. After someone was quickly corrected by another writer that Thornton was in fact named as the third star, the ever-sarcastic forward said "Well why don't you wake the f--k up, ha?" as he roared laughing.

"You want a recount?" Comcast's Joe Haggerty asked. "No, definitely not." Thornton replied. He was then alerted that Zdeno Chara got the honor.

"Big Monster!" he enthusiastically said. "He deserves it. It's good for him to get a goal too. Savvy called that before the game. I saw him in the weight room and he had a feeling Z was gonna get one. He's usually bang on with those calls too."

Thornton, ever-faithful to "the code" when it comes to pugilism, waited for Gaustad to engage him after taking umbrage with a questionable hit the Sabres forward laid on Byron Bitz in the third period.

"I waited for him to get up and to get his gloves off before I dropped mine. I very easily could have had my mitts off and started throwing." he said, appreciating the fact that the refs assessed him an extra 2:00 for roughing as opposed to an instigator penalty.

But once the gloves were dropped, Thornton exacted revenge and took it to Gaustad. The two began vehemently jawing at one another in the box soon after.

"Anything fit to print?" I asked Thornton of the shouting match. "Eh, probably not. I couldn't really hear what he was saying over there, but I don't really give a s--t what he was saying to tell you the truth."

Would you expect anything but the truth from him?

If you ever find yourself in search of an athlete oozing with sarcasm, brutally honest and always ready to dispense comedic gold, I recommend making your way to the Bruins locker room at the TD Garden. Just ask for #22 in Black and Gold. You won't be disappointed.
