Caps 4 - Panthers 1 - Highlights
Finally, a team-win
- The Caps got a more-or-less full 60 minute effort from the entire team tonight.
- Theodore was strong and deserved a shutout. The goal that beat him wasn't his fault and his play was nothing short of solid.
-
Brian Pothier had his best night as a Capital, registering 1 goal and 2 assists, demonstrating that he truly can be a puck-moving defenseman with an upside.
-
Brendan Morrison's 2 goals, including the game winner, along with another strong contribution from both
Brooks Laich and
Mike Knuble, were the difference for the Caps offense.
-
NIcklas Backstrom had a quiet night, yet still managed a key contribution when he set up Pothier on the power play early in the 3rd to give the Caps a 2 goal lead.
- Nice to see
Tyler Sloan get on the board again. This time as a D-man.
-
Shaone Morrisonn's 5 minute boarding call at the end of the game put the Caps in a tough spot, but Washington's ability to kill off the 5 minute Florida power play with only 6 minutes to go was the key to the Capitals win and was the first sign that this team is growing.
- Alex Semin played over 17 minutes tonight, but outside of some incredible stick-handling on the periphery, was more or less unnoticeable. As a result of his penchant for hiding on the ice, Boudreau chose Semin to sit the 5 minute penalty in Morrisonn's place.
These two teams are back at again tonight at the Verizon Center for their 2nd matchup in less than 24 hours so be sure to check back for my pregame later on.
