Unlikely Heroes? Update: Canucks scouting Foppa?

Work was a little manic this morning and I was at an early meeting so I did not open up my Globe and Mail but I finally saw this today and it is interesting:

Now back to regular reading.

It was a good win for the Canucks last night with goals from *gasp* Hordichuk and *yowza* Pettinger. Heck even even Burrows and Henrik got one each not that they are unlikely scorers but Burrows is a guy who needs to get it going on the score sheet.

What can be said about the game other than a solid effort? A little praise for Andrew Raycroft certainly. Rayzor has been a great support piece for this club since Captain Lou went down and one has to wonder about him as a player going forward. Is he better than he is given credit for? I've been starting to think about this a bit and is Raycroft the kind of goalie who does well when he has confidence in the defense in front of him? His last two stops were nothing short of nightmares in terms of defensive support.

If Rayzor continues this play does he become a valuable trade piece? As a UFA probably not much but I'm sure there are a couple of teams taking notice.

The last time the Canucks played a back to back game they gave up 7 unanswered goals and looked pretty shell shocked during the game. We had defensemen playing 3rd line wing and call ups all over the map. Not much has changed really in terms of diversity of line up but the play has by far.

We knew there were going to be bumps in the road with the amount of injuries on the team and so many new(er) faces getting substantial minutes. However, I don't think many fans thought about the history of this club under AV and how it has taken time for the team to gel under his system. In 2006-07 it didn't really happen until just before or after the Christmas break. In 07-08 it seemed to start off okay but become unglued due to blue line decimation. In 08-09 the group came together in November but struggled after the captain went down and the adjustment to having a large Swede join the club late in the season. However, what happened after that stretch was incredible.

If the Canucks can manage a win tonight against a very tough Dallas team then I think it's safe to say that they may be hitting their groove. Dallas is a team that has always played Vancouver hard and the two clubs seem to match up well with each other. This year's team has been skating and attacking with ferocity and looks similar in style to the 2003 version of Vancouver- Marc Crawford being the common denominator.

I'm not aware of any changes tonight other than that dumb SOB is allowed back in the line up. It should be a good tilt with Dallas still being pissed about the OT call against them. It looks like SOB and Bernier are still out and Rayzor playing again tonight. A win is a win and right now I don't care how ugly or pretty they are but I just want the team to keep getting them.

Enjoy the game!
