Pred Nation has to be thinking “I stayed up late for this?” after last night’s 4-0 loss to Anaheim, a loss that had some familiar themes. Shutout? Check… Powerless power play? Check… Short term meltdown? Check… Critical defensive mistakes? Check…

Nowhere was the absence of Shea Weber shown more than on special teams last night. An 0-5 on the power play and one power play goal given up. The lack of JP Dumont, Colin Wilson and Martin Erat didn’t help matter on the offensive side as the Predators threw 40 shots on Ducks goaltender Jonas Hiller, but the majority of them were open shots with no traffic in front of the net. Hiller’s 40 save performance earned him First Star of the night honors on NHL.com.

The task gets no easier as the Predators head to LA for a Saturday afternoon tilt with the resurgent Kings. The Kings spent last night beating the defending Stanley Cup champs. There is no television for this game, radio only from both teams.

The return of Jason Arnott was well received although he did have some rust to knock off, looking better as the game progressed.

Jordin Tootoo’s return also showed some positives and some challenges. He brought the pest aspect back to the ice, and also took a bad penalty that lead to the Duck’s first goal.

Congratulations to Ducks future Hall of Famer Teemu Selanne who moved past the legendary Jean Beliveau on the career points list with his two goal performance against the Preds.
