Reports were rampant yesterday that Forsberg had committed to play in the KHL for the Ak Bars Zazan. Peter has denied this and clearly stated that he will not commit to anyone until after the current tournament in which he is playing is over.

What we know about Peter gives some very good clues:

#1. Peter Forsberg does not lie. I have dealt with him for years and he is perhaps as honest as any hockey player out there. Is his agent testing the waters now? Yes. But Peter will sooner tell his agent to do his job but not inform him of anything until after the tourney than know what is being discussed and have to lie. That is a Peter Forsberg trait.

#2. Peter Forsberg plays hockey to compete. Not for the money. There are few players out there who have lived more modestly and saved more of the money they have made than Forsberg. He simply isn't about money and his father from the outset got him on sound economic grounds by teaching him how to budget for the rest of his life as opposed to spending wildly while you are making the millions.

#3. Peter Forsberg wants to play in the best league in the world and win the ultimate trophy. The KHL is looking for publicity and therefore I am not shocked by the leaking rumors. I don't buy them at all.

#4. Peter Forsberg wants to play in the Olympics. I believe that he signs at the latest possible date in the NHL and plays for Team Sweden in Vancouver.

#5. There are plenty of NHL teams interested. You can add Vancouver to the list. If he is healthy, he is in the NHL.

Per Bob McKenzie: Montreal has claimed Jay Leach off of waivers from the Devils and put Alex Henry on Waivers...

more to come.
