Call them the Cardiac Kids. Call them the Captains of Comeback. Call them... the Kings.
For the second straight game, the Kings entered the 3rd period behind in the game. For the second straight game, they were victorious, improving their record to 10-4-2.
Behind
Anze Kopitar's two goals, the Kings overcame a 2-1 deficit to score 4 even strength goals in the 3rd period to hand the defending Stanley Cup champ Penguins their first road defeat in 8 games before a sellout crowd at Staples.
Kopitar got things started early taking a beautiful pass up the middle from
Justin Williams and stutter stepping Mark Andre Fleury for a goal just 27 seconds into the contest.
But Kings netminder
Jonathan Quick, who has had trouble all season long stopping shots above the shoulder, allowed a
Jordan Staal blast to get past him just 43 seconds later.
Chris Kunitz tipped in a shot in the 2nd period for a 2-1 lead and it looked as though the Pens were on their way to a record tying 8th consecutive road win.
But the Kings began their 3rd period assault early. Kopitar tied the game at the 6:17 mark.
Jarret Stoll took a pass from
Dustin Brown at the 12:09 mark for a Kings lead which they wouldn't relinquish. 23 seconds later
Michal Handzus slapped a puck past Fleury for a 4-2 lead and
Dustin Brown finished things off with a shot from the corner for a 5-2 victory.
The Kings are now 6-0-2 in their last 8 games.
Kopitar now has 13 goals and 13 assists and leads the NHL with 26 points in 16 games.
Ryan Smyth is now 5th in the league with 20 points.
Jarret Stoll won 10 of 12 faceoffs.
Craig Adams lead both teams with 8 hits.
Sidney Cosby who was battling a shoulder injury, only had one shot on goal.
Saturday's game vs nashville is NOT on local TV

Every game the Kings honor someone who has dedicated their life to serving the military. Many have been in combat and have returned home to a heroes welcome.
Except the honoree tonight who was caught on camera waving a Penguins towel.
Way down on the farm…
Through 15 games, Brayden Schenn has 8 goals and 13 assists for 21 points and a +9,
Kings draft pick Brandon Kozun (6th round) leads all WHL scorers with 34 points (10g 24a) in just 19 games and Linden Vey (4th round, 2009) is also in the top 15 with 8 goals and 16 assists in 21 games
