In order to provide full disclosure I feel that's it's only fair to admit that as I watched the overtime last night and saw Dallas defenseman Niklas Grossman shoot the puck over the glass I immediately turned to the person I was watching with and said: "but doesn't he have to be in his own zone for it to be a penalty?". Well, one would assume that from reading the rulebook... Don't believe me? Just ask Stars coach Marc Crawford and I'm sure he may still be boiling over the call.
But I digress... Two very important events occurred last night aside from the Flames breaking their two game slide:
1.
Curtis McElhinney showed that when he's on he can be a very capable back-up and I'm not just referring to the timely penalty shot save that kept his team in it. The much-maligned Flames backup recorded his first win of the season by stopping 38 of 40 shots and was properly named the second star.
2.
Jarome Iginla finally played the way he's expected to since late last season. Not only were his two goals huge, but he was a physical force every time he was on the ice and reminded everyone why he's considered one of the premier players in the NHL today.
Not much time to bask in the victory, however, as the Flames strap up the skates again tonight in St. Louis vs the struggling Blues.
Have a great day!
