Devils 3 - Caps 2
Caps are now 1-4 without their Fearless Leader
- Once again the Caps could not pull off a full 60 minute effort and fell behind the 8 ball(no pun intended) when Jersey took advantage on the power play in the 2nd period. The Caps never recovered and as a result had their streak of 9 games with a point come to an end.
-
Nicklas Bergfors is going to be a player to watch out for in the future and, as I called in my pregamer, was a player the Capitals should have being special attention to tonight. The rookie collected 2 power play goals, including the game winner to give him 4 goals and 4 assists in 13 games. Looks like Lou grabbed a good one in Bergfors.
- On that same note, it was nice to see
Mathieu Perreault not only make his NHL debut tonight for the Capitals, but to do so in style as Perreault grabbed helpers on both of the Capitals goals tonight. Despite being on the losing end of his first career game, Perreault proved that he was definitely ready to compete at this level. His play was inspiring and Boudreau rewarded Perreault with lots of ice time as well as a chance to play late in the game. Congrats on an excellent NHL debut Matt!
First true loss in awhile for the Caps, but nothing they can't overcome. A good dose of reality, especially without the OV in the lineup may serve as an excellent jumpstart for some of the guys who have been struggling of late...(his number starts with a 2 and ends with an 8...)
Short and sweet tonight. Another loss to the Devils in Jersey and another chance for Gabby to regather his troops.
I will be back with more tomorrow.
