Motown Matchup with Wings May Be Magic for Offensively Challenged B's

When the Boston Bruins make their way to Joe Louis Arena Tuesday night, taking on the defending Western Conference champion Detroit Red Wings, they may feel a bit like they’re looking in the mirror. Both teams enter the matchup feeling the effects of losing their leading goal scorers from a year ago (Phil Kessel, Marian Hossa) and dealing with critical, depth depleting injuries up front as the likes of Marc Savard, Milan Lucic, Valtteri Filppula and Johan Franzen will be missing in action...

NEW LINE COMBOS

Claude Julien has decided to mix up the lines and here's what we should be looking at tonight:

Sturm - Bergeron - Recchi
Wheeler - Krejci - Ryder
Paille - Sobotka - Marchand
Whitfield - Begin - Thornton

My thoughts? The WKR line was magic last year, good to see them back together. Bergeron and Sturm had chemistry in previous seasons, but I just don't see how Recchi complements them in that spot. Sobotka and Marchand should bring out the best in one another, as the duo saw plenty of time together in Providence. Hopefully Sobotka's recent up tempo performances awaken the yappy, agitator ways we really haven't seen quite yet from Marchand.

Your thoughts?

LIFETIME HISTORY

The Bruins are 235-243-95-2 all time against Detroit with an 80-153-52-1 record on the road.

Boston is currently riding a 3-0-0-1 streak at the Joe Louis Arena.

The B's won the lone matchup between the two teams last season, a 4-1 win back in November of 2008. Manny Fernandez got the W.

The last time the Bruins shutout the Wings in Detroit was January 7, 2004. Andrew Raycroft blanked Detroit in a 3-0 Boston win.

The Bruins haven't been victorious in OT in Detroit since December 4, 1990. Randy Burridge got the GWG in a 5-4 win for the B's.
