Since the Flyers play the Lightning at 5pm today down at the Wachovia I will be arriving at the arena at 3pm and be able to blog more then on what is turning into an interesting day...
FORSBERG UPDATE.
The oft discussed
Peter Forsberg will play for Sweden in the Karjala Cup, which begins this Thursday. As I have said about the doubters for
Peter Forsberg, you need to take this year's comeback more seriously than any of the past few. My sources in Sweden say Peter is getting a grasp on his game more than he has since perhaps 2006 and is actually feeling far more healthy.
While anyone can get hurt at any time, Forsberg is really looking like he will not only return to the NHL, he will return and be a force. There will be several NHL scouts watching Forsberg in the Karjala Cup this week. So far I know three teams that are going. Philly, Colorado, and Chicago. I have heard rumblings of Montreal, Washington, and Detroit.
YES Detroit. Can anyone possibly imagine Forsberg in his most hated Red and White. I don't know. I have heard from people in previous years that the Avs/Red Wings rivalries were something that Peter took so seriously that he would never play for the Wings. That he himself just couldn't do it.
Now in this day and age of Red Sox players signing with the Yankees you would think that nothing is really that sacred. But then if there is one player who would perhaps defy that modern athlete paradigm it would be Peter. He does whatever he wants and really isn't about the money. Some day, after Peter hangs it up, I will be able to tell you more about that and how I know he isn't about the cash.
Can Kessel Walk on Water? (well don't all hockey players sorta "walk on water?")
Word out of Toronto is that Kessel is almost officially cleared and may be back tomorrow in full tilt. It's a good thing he is coming into situation where there isn't too much pressure on him to perform right away...oh wait....
Anyway, this is really good news and I personally think Kessel will be a major force and a huge influence to turn some positive energy back on.
He will be playing with Blake and Stajan I have heard.
Islanders/Oilers Rumors.
I was hearing talk all last night about a possible deal between the two teams. I wish I had specifics, but I have heard Horcoff's name mentioned and a pretty significant player returning to Edmonton. A young player not named Tavares of course! Hopefully there will be more.
Talk to you all between 3-4
