The Sabres record in the month of October. Regulation losses to the Thrashers and Islanders. 4-1 at home. 4-1 away from HSBC Arena.
33
Number of goals for Sabres in 11 games.
24
Number of goals against for Buffalo in 11 games. The best in the NHL.
200
The number of wins that Marty Biron now has earned in his career. #200 will be a mantle puck for Marty, as it came against Lindy and the Sabres. Saturday's win was Marty's first of the season. Attaboy, Marty!
Biron improves to 7-2-1 lifetime against Buffalo.
Begs the question: will Islander bench boss, Scott Gordon, start Biron in BuffaloWednesday night? Bit of a no brainer, eh Scott?
38
Number of saves Biron made Saturday night. Great effort by the veteran goaltender. Fear not Sabre Swashbucklers, your team through the requisite amount of shots on the net, however, they ran into a hot goalie and a team that was feeling goood about itself. No worries. All is still well in Sabreland.
2
The number of teams very interested in upgrading their starting goaltending after the first month of action.
Marty has been on the radar screen of scouts and execs around the NHL for the past couple of weeks. Keep and eye on Chicago and Detroit as possible landing spots for the veteran goalie. The Hawks were interested in Biron's services in June, however, the signings of Hossa and Kopecky chewed up their cap space, hence, no room for Biron. Young Niemi needs a veteran to show him the NHL way, and I'm told that Huet is not long for that team.
Ken Holland is said to be concerned with his team's lack of consistency in goal the first month of the season. They finished October with a ho-hum 5-4-3 record, including a big road win in calgary on Saturday night. Osgood and Howard have been so-so, however, they are not stealing games for the Winged Wheels. Sanborn, NY product, McCollum, is not ready for the rigors of the NHL, thus, furrowed brows abound in Detroit. Losing quality players like Hossa, Hudler, Samuelsson, Kopecky, and Chelios have compromised the Wings and their D-first philosophy. Recent injuries to Franzen and Fillpula have not helped either.
The Islanders are targeting a mid to late November return of oft-injured goaler, Rick DiPietro. When that happens, GM Garth Snow will have three veterans in the blue ice. Marty is the likely man on the move due to sheer economics. Roloson's $2.5 million contract will be harder to move than Biron's contract.
Buffalo might want to inquire about Biron now, before he moves elsewhere. Just sayin.....
8-5
The final score of Game 3 of the World Series. Yankees lead 2-1, with Game 4 tonight in Philly. The Bombers were down 3-0 early on, and rallied to earn the win. Biron called his shot early and likes the Phillies. I love the Yankees chances. Loser buys lunch, Marty!
