Déjà vu? Groundhog Day? Kings Lose in Shootout 2-1... Again.

Last night against San Jose the Kings went to a shootout after a 1-1 game. They lost. Tonight against the Canucks, the Kings went to a shootout after a 1-1 game. They lost.

“I hate shootouts” Terry Murray said after the game. “It’s a useless part of the game. I hate it but the fans love it. It’s good for the game but boy I hate it.”

It was Canadian night. It was Tween night. Ugly vintage Canucks jerseys and screeching Jonas Brothers loving girls were among the 16,838 in attendance. Jessica Stroup from “90210” sang both National Anthems in slow motion.

It must have lulled the Canucks to sleep because it took them over 11 minutes to record their first shot on goal. Seconds later Scott Parse scored his first NHL goal and the Kings, just like yesterday, led 1-0. Asked what he would do with the puck, Parse said “Maybe I’ll give it to my parents back home (in Michigan).”

However, with just over a minute left and only their 3rd shot on goal, Mikael Samuelsson blasted a shot from the left circle to tie the game. Neither team would score again until the shootout.

“It was a nice, greasy road win; we’ll take them all year.” Said Canucks netminder Andrew Raycroft who stopped 30 of 31 shots. “It was nice to win on the road. We did a good job killing penalties and keeping that top line off the score sheet. No time, no space.”

“At the end of the day, you still feel you should have won it” said Murray. “It’s real important for the players to know that they played well the last two games. Jon Quick deserved a better fate but Quick held both teams to just a goal. “Quick has been real good for us” Murray stated “Two teams that are big teams, playoff teams, they know how to get the job done and I thought Quick’s game tonight was real good.”

Vancouver only had 2 shots on goal in the 3rd period and a total of 12 through 3 periods.

Lost in all of this is that the Kings climb back into sole possession of first place.

The Kings have the day off tomorrow.

Randy Jones will wear #12 – Asked about Jones, Terry Murray said, “He’s been a good player for the Flyers. I could compare him to (former King) Kyle Quincey. All situation player. Good mobility, good defending player, he can get out on the PP and put some points up on the board, he can carry the puck real well. He’s a good addition. It gives us 7 NHL defensemen. Most important of all it gives us that depth in case something happens. Inevitably as you go through 82 games, something gives and now we feel that extra guy that can fit in and we’re not going to miss a beat."

Big dummy! I didn't see Sean O'Donnell on the ice during warmups, so I put that on the Twitter only to have Trainer Joe Caliguri show it to O'Donnell... who had just skated off from warmups. Can you say Lens Crafters Matthew????

Huh?

Talk about an unusual stat –If you look up the Box Score from Tuesday’s Colorado/Edmonton game you’ll notice that Wojtek Wolski was credited with ONE shot on goal for the game. One. Then how did he score TWICE?

How the mighty have fallen

Last season, Kyle Calder was skating on the top line with Anze Kopitar. This season he didn’t have a job. Yesterday he was signed by the Ducks and assigned… to the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL. Ouch!

I guess it’s better than Denis Gauthier who was last seen on a milk carton.
