Sorry UPDATE:

Wellwood out with broken toe and Shirokov called up. Expected to be with Bolduc and Bernier on the 3rd line from what I can tell.

If you had to pick an early favourite in this game I would go with Vancouver, they played earlier and did not have to travel but that's about all that works in their favour heading into tonight's matchup.

The Oilers are a superior team so far this season and have one victory of the Canucks to prove it. They may be a bit demoralized after last night's 5-2 win where after Calgary took over the lead they could not get anything going. It's not slight against Edmonton as Calgary may be that good this early, something many of us would have been loathe to admit four weeks ago.

I expect the Oilers to come out hard tonight and Vancouver to skate along relying on Luongo to weather any storms. I think we are seeing the general approach to games from Vancouver as best they can. Try and dictate play when they can but more importantly try not to let a team get the better of them early. The loss of Daniel Sedin and the continued absence of Pavel Demitra make it hard for the Canucks to play their usual style of offense. Like a broken record I keep repeating this mantra and this time I'll add that Salo and Hansen effect too- it's there and it's real.

Vancouver is learning to play without 4 players 3 of which are key roster players and critical to the team, less so with Hansen. What we have seen with the Canucks the past two games is the new benchmark in play- a gritty team scrapping out wins anyway they can. Thankfully Luongo has lived up to his billing and the Canucks will need him to continue a 2 GAA or less performance.

Mathieu Schneider is expected to play tonight and we can only hope he brings a calming presence to the blue line and the PP. Although clipping along at 4th in the NHL it would appear that there is still room to improve due to scrambling play and panicked decisions from the blue line. This is a team that could use veteran leadership amongst it's skaters.

I think the Canucks win tonight but once again- it won't be pretty and they will need a bit of luck.

Enjoy the game!
