Per Darren Dreger from 640 Toronto’s Leafs Lunch, Vesa Toskala left the ice at Leafs practice this morning early, which would indicate that his knee injury is not completely healed.

Dreger also reported the continuing rumors that the Leafs could be interested in Ducks backup netminder Jean-Sebastian Giguere, which was reported by Eklund last week.

There is also speculation that Coach Ron Wilson is not pleased with the play so far this season from sophomore Luke Schenn and that he may be in the press box for the first game of the 5 game road trip this Saturday night versus the Vancouver Canucks.

The Giguere rumor makes a bit of sense, since the organization is well aware of his abilities, especially goaltending coach Francois Allaire and GM Brian Burke, but Giguere’s contract has 2 years remaining, with a cap hit of $6 Million, so significant cap money would have to go the other way in the deal or down to the AHL. The benching of Schenn is a bit of an overreaction, but it is unquestioned that he has not played with the same quality as he did in his rookie season.
