Forsberg's Stress Fracture has Healed.

Talking to sources, Peter is again working out at his home rink, before deciding whether to return to Modo or the NHL. There are rumors that he could play in the Swiss league, but according to my sources he will "just work out at the home rink in Ornskoldsvik and decide where to go from there."

Peter is very optimistic about how everything feels right now and is skating pain free and better than he has felt in years. The stress fracture was said to be unrelated to his previous injuries to the same foot...Well I guess that's hard to say. So many procedures on his foot surely has taken a degree of toll, and when you fix one thing how can you be sure that new problems won't arise?

I know people are likely tired of Peter Forsberg injury reports. Well so is he according to a source close to him, but the source also was sure to note that this attempt feels different...

(from an email) "Pete really feels a source of energy and his love of the game has never been stronger. I would find it very hard to imagine him not returning to the NHL this season."

The other fact that can't be denied is that he was tearing it up for 3 games with Modo, hitting, skating and creating his patented plays like never before. Peter also wants a chance at a Cup and would only come back to a team he felt had that possibility. He has a huge love for the 3 cities in which he played, and Philly would be interested if he is healthy (I am told), while you know he is closely watching this great start by the Avalanche...

My source continues in his email...

"I really think Peter wants to play in Colorado if they remain hot."

Another source said that it is highly possible that Foppa could return to the NHL after the Olympics, noting:

"Foppa's #1 motivator is playing competitive hockey. He doesn't need the cash, but he craves the pressure of a championship series. What better way for Forsberg to go out than wearing a gold in Vancouver."

Knowing Peter as I do, that scenario makes the most sense to me. He cares about his legacy and truly hates the fact that people are remembering him now for failed attempts to prolong his career. Peter could have a huge impact on the Olympic tournament, so why not get healthy now and go tear it up in Vancouver, then make up your mind and go with an NHL team that could really have that shot. It was interesting listening to Mats Sundin talk on Leafs Lunch in Toronto. Mats basically said, "If I could play half a season again and the playoffs I would."

I know that many of you will have a problem with that statement, but the NHL season is a serious grind for a veteran player. I got the sense from listening to Mats that were the seasons suddenly 40 games and playoffs he wouldn't be retiring. I would bet many players feel that way. I am ok with Foppa coming in mid season because I simply love watching the guy play and will take whatever he has left.

Wings/Leafs Discussions?

There are rumors the Leafs may have interest in "two players on the current roster of the Red Wings one of who is Jimmy Howard." The Red Wings are reportedly interested in prospects only. In all my years of reporting rumors this may be the first time that I have ever heard a Wings rumor that sounded like a step towards rebuilding. It may be early to jump the gun, and I truly feel that Detroit still has plenty for the next few years, so I can't be certain.

The internal question surrounding the Red Wings is are the kids they have good enough to hold this team's supremacy? It is definitely a tough call. Right now Leino, Abdelkader, and Helm for only a combined 6 points. They have to be better.

Is Kostitsyn really on the move, or...

The Predators continue to be on the prowl for scoring. Word is that the talks with Montreal over Kostitsyn has stalled, bringing some of my sources to wonder if perhaps Sergei and Gainey could reconcile their differences and bring the younger Kostitsyn back to camp.

UPDATED 2:00PM. Frolov is a healthy scratch tonight for the Kings....Keep your eye on this.
