Notes from Pred Nation…

- What an interesting way to start a season last night in Dallas. The Preds get a win in Big D for the first time since sweeping the Stars at American Airlines center in the 07-08 season.

- Mike Santorelli got his season off to a great start with his game winning shootout goal last night. Good speed and no fear came together as Santo went five hole for the winner.

- Still waiting on more info regarding the extent of JP Dumont’s injury. I have spoken to a member of the travelling party from last night, their take is that he was OK. I have to admit… I hope this doesn’t affect the whole season (a la the Burrows hit from last year.)

- I liked the work ethic shown on the first line, even after Dumont went down. Patric Hornqvist looked pretty good filling in for Dumont after his injury.

Thoughts on the first weekend of play…

- I can’t say I’m surprised by the Blues taking two from Detroit. St. Louis looks very good and Detroit still looks a bit tired. Not time to hit the panic button by any stretch in Hockeytown, but there has to be grave concern about their goaltending. Neither Osgood or Howard looked good.

- Colorado is 2-0?? Really? Fact is, they have looked pretty good doing it. That is probably the only surprising 2-0 team in the league, especially given they beat San Jose and blanked Vancouver. The Preds better get ready… Colorado is up next for the home opener on Thursday.

- Surprising 0-2 teams? Honestly… All three of ‘em… Carolina in the East, they just haven’t looked good in dropping games to Philadelphia and Boston. Detroit and Vancouver in the West.

- I loved the wall-to-wall hockey yesterday, four games on the NHL Network from noon to midnight plus the Preds game in HD! Now that’s my idea of fun… I just love that kind of scheduling.

- I was very skeptical of the Flyers signing Ray Emery… Flyer fans, so far so good. Emery did not look comfortable in the Carolina game, but made the stops he had to make to get the shutout. Different story in the New Jersey game as he was stellar in their 5-2 win on the road over the Devils. Flyers start at 2-0 for the first time since 98-99.
