UPDATE - 1:40pm...
from Predators PR office...
Nashville, Tenn. (September 25, 2008) – Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has reassigned goaltender Mark Dekanich, defenseman Jonathon Blum and forwards Ben Eaves and Andreas Thuresson to Milwaukee of the American Hockey League.
A total of 19 forwards, nine defensemen and two goaltenders remain in camp. Teams must be at or below the 23-man active roster limit by their first regular season game, which comes for the Predators on Thursday, Oct. 3 at Dallas.

Another victim of the stupid proceedings in the desert. The only question I have about Wayne Gretzky's resignation is... What took him so long? This bankruptcy mess continues because of a judge who doesn't have the intestinal fortitude to make a decision, so Gretzky made one for him.
Note to Judge Baum... you seem to be the only one who thinks these two sides might come to some agreement... quit messing around and decide. You aren't helping anyone right now, on any side of the case and you are doing serious damage to the franchise in your fiddling while Phoenix burns...
Back to Gretzky... Interesting comments by Don Cherry on this, highly critical of the Great One, and some members of the Canadian press aren't being too kind either...
Gretzky did what he needed to do, and to be frank... the NHL needs him more than the Great One needs the NHL. Unfortunately, comments from Gretzky's father indicate that Wayne is done with the NHL. That is completely understandable and unfortunate for the league.
Godspeed Wayne... enjoy your family, rest, recharge. We hope that some time will give a better perspective and allows you to get involved with the league again. We'll be here if you want to come back.
Now... on to today's preview

Installment 25 in my month long series of previews of every team in the NHL. Today St. Louis… tomorrow, Tampa Bay.
-------------------------------
St. Louis Blues – The story of the Blues last season? Injuries, overcoming adversity, youngsters and the playoffs… Injuries of the freak variety, tripping over carpets? Golf cart accidents? Then major injuries to the likes of Paul Kariya and Andy MacDonald. You would’ve expected this team to fold it up and pack up for the season and to be talking about a new coach right now. Kudos to coach Andy Murray for keeping this bunch together, using his young talent wisely and even making the playoffs. Despite their quick exit from round 1, a very successful season for the Blue Notes. Mostly due to the development of St. Louis’ young talent. The future is bright in the Gateway City.
Last Year’s Record – 41-31-10 92 points. 3rd in the Central Division, 6th in the Western Conference
Division Match Up – The strong Central Division was three points away from putting all five teams into the playoffs last season, the division looks every bit a strong this year. Chicago has a lot of talent, but a lot of drama also. Columbus is coming off their first playoff appearance and Nashville always stays in the hunt. Detroit is still the favorite in the division but Chicago and St. Louis are coming up fast. I expect the Blues to make the playoffs again.
Outlook for 2009-2010 – The Blues have excellent coaching in Andy Murray, a solid core of vets and rapidly developing youngsters. Veteran leadership like Paul Kariya and Keith Tkachuk is invaluable, especially come playoff time. Up and comers like David Perron, TJ Oshie and the potential impact of an Alex Pietrangelo leave great hope for the immediate future of this team on the ice. The only question for the Blues is in net. The addition of Ty Conklin covers the loss of Manny Legace. Chris Mason earned a shot at the number one slot with his performance last year, especially finishing the season on a 24-8-6 tear with a .924 save percentage and a 2.08 GAA. It will be interesting to see how Chris handles his second shot at being a number one from jump street, as he had difficulty with the position two seasons ago in Nashville. This team is built for success this year… if they can stay healthy they will compete with Chicago and Detroit for the division, playoffs are a lock.
