UFC? WWE? WEC? ... nope... NHL.

The steel cage death match that is the fight over the Phoenix Coyotes reached new lows yesterday with grown men name calling, kicking, stomping and tugging on the franchise and its’ fans like a new toy that everyone wants to play with. The only thing missing is an Atomic Drop or a metal chair to the head… or perhaps Vince McMahon hosting the festivities. Hmmm... the XHL? Nah... won't work.

To paraphrase the Bard… a pox on ALL your houses. The worst of human behavior is on display in this situation... it's almost bad enough to make it into a reality show.

> Jerry Moyes deliberately (and possibly illegally) manipulates the process by releasing confidential information on the negotiations from one of the suitors for the franchise with the City of Glendale.

> Jim Balsillie crows about his being the biggest and best (there are just too many places I could go with that one…) and judge agreed (scary, I know.)

> A noted Texas computer tycoon (who LOVES to send American jobs overseas) weighs in on what how he wants to be paid due to his fund’s ill-advised investment in Moyes. Is anyone else wondering what happened to “risk” in business?

> An NFL team complains about subsidizing a sport… no seriously… stop laughing, it’s true… really… I’m not kidding. An actual NFL team is complaining about subsidizing a professional sport! Wow… the Cardinals deserve the “Hypocrite of the Year” award for this one.

> A bidder for the team is close to walking away due to the direct actions of the seller.

> Another bidder is quietly going about the business of getting their ducks in a row for the new September deadline.

> The NHL continues its’ “character” campaign … which, after all the other crooks that has been allowed to be associated with the league, looks to be an attempt to firmly lock the barn door after the horse has gotten out.

Balsillie wants a team, but doesn’t want to be held accountable for his actions and callously wraps himself in the flag to try and manipulate public opinion. Moyes wants to sell, but only wants to sell to who he wants to and is using the bankruptcy courts to try and drive that. The NHL wants control over its’ business to be able to decide who they will and will not do business with.

I feel like I’m watching my worst enemy go over a cliff… in my new car.

This whole situation sickens me, and guess who’s caught in the middle? The fans, both in Phoenix and Hamilton. These good fans are being manipulated by spoiled rich people that just want what they want and to hell with the consequences.

Maybe I’m just too used to Hollywood, good guys wear the white hats, bad guys wear the black and you know who to root for. Not so in this case, whoever survives this whole sordid mess and ends up with the Coyotes franchise… well, we sure know who the loser will be.

The fans.
