According to a blog posted moments ago by Tim Sassone of the Daily Herald ....

"A source close to the situation confirmed new Hawks winger Marian Hossa has a shoulder or rotator cuff injury The severity of the injury is not known, although it is possible Hossa might need surgery, which could put him out of the Hawks lineup until December. The Hawks are monitoring Hossa while he rehabs the injury, believed to have been suffered during the playoffs."

Tim also adds...

"It would be logical to assume the Hawks gave Hossa a physical before they agreed to the deal and were satisifed with the results."

Before they agreed to the deal on July 1?

I am not so sure about that. I would assume so as well, but with the way he was signed on July 1, it would be hard to imagine when exactly such a physical took place on that day. It is almost certain that a physical took place in the days following July 1....

more to come in the morning, including a growing belief that the odd 1 year deal signed by Plekanec almost certainly means other teams are interested in him and the Canadiens are involved in talks.
